The First Canine Helicopter

by Angela
editor:Hazel
My puppy drank Mom's coffee,
And was over caffeinated,
His little eyes looked quite surprised,
So I watched and I waited.

Then he pounce up on the table,
Scoffed Mom's cinnamon bun,
Leapt onto the counter,
And devoured another one.

He rocketed straight into the air,
And streaked around the room,
Crashed into the closet,
Gobbled up the broom.

He danced up on the lampshade,
Somersaulted across the floor,
Pirouetted on the toaster,
And smashed right through the door.

My puppy was so happy,
His tail spun round and round,
I hugged him round is neck,
And our six feet left the ground.

Now there are paw prints on the lamp shade,
The door has a dog shaped hole,
And when puppy and I are very bored,
I pour coffee in his bowl.

We've flown all over Europe,
The Americas were a blast,
Asia was so amazing,
Australasia went by too fast.

Next we're off to Russia,
To see the famous Red Square,
Then speed off to the Arctic,
To look for a polar bear.

My puppy and I love traveling,
Even in the snow,
And NASA has declared us,
An offical UFO!

Ingrid The Smily Witch

Can I whisper you a tale,
About a smiling witch?
Ingrid would even smile,
When she zoomed into a ditch!

The others said it wasn't right,
For a witch to smile,
A proper witch looks serious,
And smells of something vile.

Ingrid looked at her bat,
Hanging up side down,
She thought "if I do that,
My smile would be a frown!"

But hanging up by her toes,
Was not so very easy,
Her magic hat fell right off,
And it made her stomach queasy.

Flushing a deep shade of green,
Her smile turned to a frown,
But the other silly witches,
Thought she was smiling up-side down!

"Ingrid broke the smiling rule,"
The others did cackle and croon,
Abracamonkious hairykaflunkious,
You are now a hairy Baboon!"

Ingrid rather liked the change,
Now she smiles all day long,
Grins, giggles, laughs out loud,
And sings a happy song!

A Funny Thing

by Angela and Hazel
I was swimming in my teacup,
When I saw a funny thing,
A gravy boat came sailing,
I heard the sailors sing.

"We sail upon the seven teas,
With our teaspoon oars,
Eating the finest custard pies,
And drinking through cheese straws."

The Captain was a biscuit,
With a tea bag on his back,
The oars men were all short breads,
Sitting in a stack.

They hit a great white sugar-berg,
How their boat did rock,
The Captain fell over board,
And was rescued with a sock.

"This tea is much too dangerous,"
The sailors all did shout,
With scrambling legs and flailing arms,
From my tea cup they climbed out.

Now I have a sailing boat,
Silver spoons for my oars,
I keep look out for the sugar-bergs,
And drink lemonade through cheese straws.

Spoons

by Felix age 7, Hazel age 9 and Angela
Things you never knew,
You could do with a spoon...

Cuddle it like a teddy bear,
Tunnel to the ice cream store,
A grappling hook for mountain climbing,
A catapult for backyard bugs,
A carriage pulled by a tiny mouse,
A ride for a tired fairy,
Catching windy pops in it,
Balance on it with pointed toes,
Plant it deep and watch a spoon tree grow...

Or you can eat your cereal with it,
you decide!

How To Make A Giant Crazy

by Felix, age 7
How to make a giant crazy,
In ten easy steps.

Put mud in his toothpaste,
Sew him into is blanket while he sleeps,
Poke holes in his coffee cup,
Put worms in his shoes,
Replace his muscles with fake muscles and put them in the stewing pot,
Switch his toothpicks for matches,
Put rocks in his socks,
Put rocks in his bed,
Sew his pant legs together,
Send him a pot of chocolate spread with mud in it.

Now lock him in his bedroom,
Run away.

A Bored Monster

Whatever is a monster to do,
When he's bored of scaring you?
Building tall creamy milkshake towers,
Is great for many slow idle hours,
But when that job is all done,
He needs to find another one.

Making a flower and carrot salad,
Can be done to a monster's ballad,
Jauntily jog down to the park,
To wrestle squirrels in the dark,
Fill the bath with sloppy mud,
Jump in with a mighty thud.

Tickle the neighbor's fluffy kitty,
Send it home nice and skitty,
Cook a wicked monster's brew,
Add his underpants to the stew,
Pull stringy bogies from his nose,
Droop them over hairy toes.

But monsters do not do these things,
(not even those with scaly wings),
Now you should know I'm being silly,
Sillier than a silly billy,
A bored monster you will never see,
Because he's happy scaring me!

If My Head Was Like A Doughnut

If my head was like a doughnut,
I would be in trouble,
Bugs would come and climb inside,
Bringing sticks and rubble,
Hang a banner on my nose,
Build a jungle gym,
Spill all their milkshakes,
And jump in for a swim.

Into The Deep

First we venture into the deep,
Where we find the seaweed sheep,
You want to see the coral cow?
Into the shallow we go now.
Then seek the under water caves,
In the dark the octo-puss waves,
Surface to greet the barnicle dog,
He wags his tail in sea foam fog,
In the driftwood here afloat,
Splashes the salty sea shell goat,
And now back to our cosy home,
Together we will slowly roam,
What is that in the dinner dish?
I think it must be fish!

Making A Giant Feel Queasy

Making a giant feel queasy,
Is not so very easy,
There is an awful lot,
To put in the stewing pot.
Stinky poop,
Hairy gloop,
Rancid oil,
A witch's boil,
Mouldy bread,
A hamster's head,
Week old cheese,
A rooster's knees,
Rabbit's brains,
Fierce lion's manes,
A flat screen TV,
Ear wax from a flea,
A lizard's skin,
A maggot's chin,
Vampire vomit,
A Shakespeare sonnet,
Gone off milk,
A pig's ear silk,
A dried lump of dragon snot,
And then when you have the lot,
Stir it up with a ten foot spoon,
Grimacing like a witch's goon,
Keep stirring for at least an hour,
To stop your brew from turning sour,
When at last it is all done,
Add it to a giant's bun,
Watch from very far away,
On a lovely clear view day,
The giant who has been a toad,
Will first jump and then explode,
I know he doesn't feel queasy,
But I did say it wasn't easy.

The Ice Cream Run

Mom said "who will put the ice cream away?"
The freezer is two floors up.
"I will", I say.
I run up the stairs clutching the ice cream tub,
On the second set of stairs I stop,
Pry back the lid,
Dip my fingers into the softened ice cream,
Scoop,
Eat,
Lovely,
I put the ice cream in the ginormous freezer.

Next day,
The same.
This time when I peel back the lid,
Dad says
"Gotcha!"
Oh.
Was it my finger marks?
Was I too keen?
Now when they ask,
For a volunteer,
They don't get one.

Couplet War I

Players: Hazel and Angela
I have a cat,
You have a rat.

My rat is a hero,
Your cat is a zero.

Your superhero rat,
Just went splat.

That furry splat,
Is actually your cat.

Your rat went splat,
Along with my cat.

Rat's superhero power,
Turned him into a flower.

I stepped on your flower,
With all it's power.

I made a fur hat,
From your beloved cat.

I ate the flower,
Now I have super power.

Hazel wins.

Crazy Cook

A crazy cook dancing hard,
Slipped on a puddle of runny lard,
He fell in the pot,
And a shock he got,
When his under pants got charred.

Boh-rok Kal

Bohrok Kal knocks down big boulders,
Bohrok Kal has tools like swords,
Air shields when he was Levak,
Bohrok Kal can go into a ball.
His head can spring up!

by Felix, aged 7

In The Forest

In the forest,
Silence talks,
Of days that last forever.
Stand still,
Look about,
What time are you living in?
Is this the Jurrasic era?
Will an Allosaurus be eating you?
Is this the middle ages?
Will a knight come charging through?
Or have you slept for a thousand years?
Whatever will you see?
As long as the forest stands,
Time roams free.

A Silly Dog

A Silly Dog

A dog who played tug-o-war,
Zoomed right into a door,
Chased a bouncy ball,
Right into a wall,
And went down in doggy folk lore.

By Hazel aged 9 and Angela aged xx

Rollercoaster

Up,
Down,
Zoom,
Whoosh.

Exciting,
Thrilling,
Hands in the air,
Go, go go!

Faster,
Crazy,
Rocketing,
Supersonic.

Shocking,
Scary,
Cheeks ripple,
Eyes water.

Vertical,
Horizontal,
Oscillating,
Inverted.

Queasy,

Dizzy,
Stomach lurching,
Legs bandy.

We stop.
"Let's do that again!"
